Leslie Charles Ramsden

MADISON- Leslie C. Ramsden, age 71, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Raymond House of DeForest. He was born on November 3, 1942, in Iowa County in the town of Pulaski, the son of Merle and Merva (Severson) Ramsden. He graduated from Iowa Grant High School in 1961 and moved to Madison. Leslie married Bette Veeder on Oct. 10, 1970. Leslie was employed by the Pancake House near Hilldale, The Memorial Union, and for many years by Inn on the Park. Despite the fact that he and his wife had disabilities, they purchased a home in 1973. They were loyal employees to their respective jobs, riding the bus to and fro. Until he contracted Parkinson’s Disease, Leslie was very strong and self-sufficient. He made every effort to be independent with minimal complaints. Leslie is survived by his sisters, Marilynn Ramsden of Mineral Point and Elaine Harker of Fitchburg; his aunt, Marcella Severson and cousins; sisters-in-law, Jeanette Batko and Carol Christofferson; brother-in-law, Robert Veeder; close family friend, Irma Semrow; godchildren, Meghan Faga-Ramos and Scott Christofferson; and nephews, nieces, and great-nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bette; his parents, Merle and Merva; his in-laws, Fred and Odette Veeder; and brothers-in-law Wendell (Pete) Harker and Dennis Veeder. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014, with Pastor Curtis P. Everson presiding. A memorial gathering will be held at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson’s Association.
