Obituary

Schulte, Kathleen Marie “Kay” MADISON- Kathleen Marie “Kay” Schulte, age 91, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Oak Park Place. She was born on March 18, 1923, in Ellsworth, Minn., the daughter of Edward and Lucille (Mosso) Daugherty. Kay graduated from Our Lady of Good Council Academy, Mankato, Minn. Her marriage to James A. Schulte on April 7, 1945, in St. Paul, Minn. was a love affair that spanned 61 years. Kay’s life as a talented homemaker was full while raising nine children. She shepherded her growing family through many moves to Eau Claire, Lincoln, Cedar Rapids, Madison, and Des Moines. While in Madison from 1965 to 1974, Kay and Jim were members of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church and Nakoma Golf Club. She returned to Madison seven years ago after the death of her beloved husband, Jim. Above all, Kay valued faith, family and friendship. Faith was a constant throughout her life. She was always the center of joyful, large family gatherings. Her favorite pastimes were sewing, golf, and bridge and her competitive nature shined until the end. All who knew Kay enjoyed her sharp mind, warm spirit, and gracious manner. Kay was a wonderful presence in our lives and will be dearly missed by her nine children, Kathy Condit, Peggy (Robert) Fullmer, Pat (Julie) Schulte, Jim (Connie) Schulte, Paul (Sue Brouillette) Schulte, Mary (Eddy) Brink, Sharon (Kirk) Stremke, Steve (Joanne) Schulte and Bob (Vicky) Schulte; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Delores Vanderah; a brother, Eugene Daugherty; nieces; nephews; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Margaret Lande; son-in-law, Mike Condit; and grandson, Christopher Kaleikilo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Thursday, July 24, 2014, with Father Randy Timmerman presiding. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. Because my mother lives at Oak Park, I came to know Kay over the past six years, seeing her recently in the hallway as she headed towards the elevator. She was a bright, dear and caring lady. This picture nicely captures her big smile and sparkling eyes. My mother and I extend our sincere sympathies to Kay's family.

My mother, June McNally, also lives at Oak Park Assisted Living. She wanted me to express her sympathy as she enjoyed Kay's friendship. She always remarked about Kay's age of 90+ years young and smile! She regrets she is not able to make it to the funeral due to her physical limitations but you are in her thoughts and prayers--Kathi Steele
