Obituary

Tooley, Susan BARABOO/TUCSON,AZ/MADISON- Susan Tooley passed away on July 9, 2014. She was born on April 23, 1934, at home in Stone’s Pocket to Elenor and Edgar Tooley. She was married to Ray Schneider. Susan valued and encouraged education. After a 13 year management career with Tupperware, she went back to UW-Madison and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Consumer Science and her Master’s degree in Business Administration. Susan loved dogs. She bred and competed with her champion dachshunds in confirmation, obedience and field trials. Susan was an active member and leader in the Badger Dachshund club and Badger Kennel clubs. As a field trial judge for the American Kennel Club, she travelled all over the United States to judge competitions. Susan enjoyed every moment of the 22 years she lived in Tucson, Arizona. She worked in hospital administration and community relations for Carondelet hospital and was a member of the Rotary. Susan hiked the desert almost every day and was devoted to an active, healthy lifestyle. Through her volunteer work as President of Compass Health Care she helped men and women all over Tucson recover, resume work and get the support needed to live without addiction. She was committed to the Serenity club’s mission and members in both Tucson and Madison. Susan’s Steuber-Tooley History book was a 40 year research project that was published and nominated for a state historical society award in 2013. Susan’s love and commitment to her children and grandchildren was spectacular. She took time to travel to see them every year and her message that “Bubbie loves you” is cemented in each of our hearts. The Western themed celebration of her 80th birthday this spring was a delight to her and her guests. She is survived by her children, Lynda (Dennis) Ruchti of McFarland and Kathlene (Robert) Holzhauer of Virginia; her grandchildren, Leya, Kaitlyn, Kelsey, Aaron and Gina; her sister, Norma (John) Meisel; and a host of loving nieces and nephews and cousins. We've wondered about Sue over the years and how she was doing. We knew her and Ray from years past in the Dachshund Club and spent time with them in Madison and visited Sue in Tucson. Sorry to hear of her passing and wish we'd known she was back in the area for one last visit. We have some keepsakes that Sue gave us before she moved to Tucson that are now even more precious and memorable. Our condolences to the family. pat & carol tesar

Dear family of Susan Tooley, Please accept my condolences for the death of your beloved mom grandma and sister. My mother, Margaret Sweeney was Susan's (and Norma's) teacher at Park View School back in the day when she first resumed teachingin the late '40's I think. Mother often talked about the Tooley girls and appreciated having them in her school room. I am just a year younger than Susan and remember her myself. We got along well, I suppose being so close in age and having little sisters, we had had a lot in common? I am glad to read that she had such a productive life and hope that all of your good memories help you to have peaceful hearts at this special time. Caringly, Pat Sweeney Kippert
