Florence Zeman

ZEMAN, FLORENCE MADISON-Florence Zeman, age 96, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2014. She was born on Oct. 6, 1917, in Madison County, Ky, the daughter of John and Zoda (Thomas) Fritz. She was the seventh child of thirteen. In 1936, she moved to Madison where she met her husband, Rudolph Zeman. Florence worked for Truax Field Commissary during World War II and worked for the VA Hospital from which she retired in 1982. She also took in foster children for many years. Florence was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church for many years where she liked to volunteer. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross and at the polls during elections. Florence enjoyed playing cards, bowling, golf and line dancing, but truly treasured most the time she spent with her family. Florence is survived by her daughter, Barbara Theiste of Eau Claire, six grandchildren, John (Diane) Theiste of Madison, Deborah (Kenneth) O’Brien of Oswego, Ill., Kathy (John) Kensmore of Summerfield, N.C., Mike (Shelly) Theiste of Eau Claire, Renee Theiste of Lakeville, Minn., and Jenny (Bob) Ellingen of Maple Grove, Minn., 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Douglas (Wanda) Fritz and Juanita Wagers, both of Kentucky, Anne Zeman of Madison, and many nieces and nephews. Florence was preceded in death by her husband Rudolph, a grandson, Mark Theiste, her parents and 10 siblings. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2014. Entombment will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, Monona. Visitation will be held on Friday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Cross Lutheran Church for their Early Childcare Center building project.
