Obituary

LEE, WILLIAM J. “BILL” NEW YORK CITY/STOUGHTON - William Lee, age 73, passed away at Agrace HospiceCare on Thursday, April 24, 2014. He is reunited with his beloved wife, Joan, who waited less than a year for him. He was born on July 2, 1940, in New York City, the son of William and Margaret (Walsh) Lee. He served in the United States Armed Forces during the Korean War. After the Army, he was hired on at Consolidated Edison as a Utility Mechanic. Bill was united in marriage to Joan on Feb. 23, 1985. Many good times were shared in Donemay Pub, family trips to the beach, and vacations in the Catskills. Bill loved going to casinos and watching his westerns. If there were children or dogs around, they always gravitated to be near him. Everyone loved his smile, humor, and quiet demeanor. After retirement, Bill and Joan traveled extensively, usually with one or more of the grandkids. More recently, despite their oxygen dependency, they made two cross country trips with John and Darlene driving. They relocated to Stoughton in December 2012 and were impressed by how kind and welcoming the community was. Bill is survived by and will be fondly remembered by Robert, Raymond and Noreen Hazlett for being a big part of their lives. He will always be Grandpa to Jamie Lee, Melissa, Steven, Ryan, Dylan and Kate. He had a special bond with his great-grandkids, Thor and Leo; as well as sister, Maureen (Frank) O'Donnell and their daughters, Mary Frances and Siobhan, whom he loved spending time with when he lived in New York. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kevin Lee. A Memorial Mass will be held at ST. ANN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 232 N. Van Buren St, Stoughton, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2014, with Monsignor Gerard Healy presiding. Bill's final resting place will be at Gate of Heaven, Valahalla, NY. My name is Nick Wleklinski and I am a volunteer with Agrace HospiceCare who had the pleasure of being able to visit with Bill over the past year. I always enjoyed our visits and I am grateful that I was able to get to know Bill. One activity that we would do consistently was watch old western TV shows such as Gunsmoke and Bat Masterson and eat an ice cream cone; it is a memory that I will forever cherish. Although I was providing a service for Bill, I feel that he was also providing a service for me. As a busy college student, it was always nice to be able to take a couple hours each week and detach from the hectic class schedule/ work load. Our visits were something I always looked forward to every week. Thank you Bill, for sharing part of your life with me, I will never forget the time I was able to spend with you. I would also like to share my condolences with the family, I apologize that I was not able to make it to the service.
