Obituary

MADISON -Victoria J. Volenberg, age 58, passed away on May 5, 2014 peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Madison, Wis., on October 2, 1955, the daughter of Elton and Evelyn (Gundlach) Paus. Vicki attended Madison East High School and received her associate’s degree in Accounting from Madison Area Technical College. Vicki was proud to be the owner/president of Metal Design Corporation, an architectural sheet metal company, where she worked to build many life-long friendships. She was more than a “boss” to her dedicated and loyal employees, who will miss her greatly. It was her nature to care more for others than for herself and she made sure that everyone felt important and valued. Vicki was a quick-witted and hard-working woman who brought her creative talents and feisty character to everything she did. Over the years she indulged her creative passions. She loved crafting, sewing, and quilting. Her wonderful baby quilts were works of art and become highly sought after. The birthday cakes she made were legendary, each special and unique, and made with lots of love. Vicki’s idea of a vacation was to be able to spend a week, uninterrupted, in her sewing room. She also enjoyed doing home remodeling projects and planned them for when Dick was gone on one of his many hunting trips. Vicki treasured every minute that she spent with her family. Vicki was a loving mother to her sons, Ryan (Amanda) Volenberg and Adam (Audrey Spaite) Volenberg; step-daughter, Lauri (Bill Radcliffe) Drager; loving grandmother of Carson, Aubrey, and Phoebe; and of her step-grandchildren, Sawyer and Brea. She is survived by her mother, Evelyn (Paus); brothers and sisters, Kathie Smith, Bob (Beverly) Paus, Connie (John) Roewer, Mark (Carol) Paus, Don (Jill) Paus; numerous nieces and nephews, her three dogs and many friends. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Richard Drager, in October, 2013; her father, Elton Paus in April, 2013; and grandparents, Ed and Corene Paus and Ged and Frances Gundlach. A Celebration of Vicki’s Life will be held at Lake Farm County Park, Shelter# 2, 4330 Libby Rd, Madison, WI 53711 on Saturday, May 17th, 2014, beginning at 11:00 a.m. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Dean/St. Mary’s and Agrace HospiceCare for the wonderful care that Vicki was given. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family or to Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Vicki whenever I think about you I remember what a a smart, funny and extremely talented woman you were. Maggie and Claire treasure the beautiful quilts you made for them and I have tucked away the afghans you made when they were born so they will be able to pass them on to their children some day. I have thought of you a lot in the last months and hoped for your recovery unfortunately that was not to be. It's my sincerest hope that you and Dick have been reunited and are fulfilling the dreams of being "mountain men" that you used to tell me about all those years ago when your love for each other was still new. Fare thee well dear friend, until we meet again. Deb Drager-Pertzborn

I will miss her sense of humor, nothing was a big deal even when it was. She took pride in her company with good reason, she loved the people that worked for her. She would often brag about them with such conviction that i wished i worked for her. David Rasmussen Cornett Homes Inc.
