Obituary

BREUNIG, LAWRENCE A. MIDDLETON-Lawrence A. Breunig, age 68, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Roxbury, Wis., on Feb. 26, 1946, the son of Victor and Mary (Roth) Breunig. Larry graduated from Sauk Prairie High School in 1965 and Madison Area Technical College in 1967. After graduation, he married Arleen Marx on May 4, 1968. Larry worked at Virchow Krause for three years, the Dane County Highway Department for 33 years, and the Middleton Insurance Company for nine years. He served as an Army reservist for the 44th General Hospital. He served his community at St. Bernard Church, as the Chairman of the Building Committee for the Church Hall, as an usher, and in the Knights of Columbus, 3rd degree. Larry had a passion for spending time with his family, visiting major league baseball stadiums, traveling, and watching western movies. He is survived by his wife, Arleen; his children, Debra (Scott) Breunig, Lisa (James) Hable and Steve (Jenna) Breunig; seven grandchildren; his mother, Mary (Roth) Breunig; his siblings, Virginia Hoffman, Vic (Barb) Breunig, Andy (Vicki) Breunig, Howard (Geri) Breunig, Arlene (Jim) Reese, Bob (Cheryl) Breunig, Alice (Fred) Haack, Tony Breunig, Maryann (Doug) Braun, Joe (Julie) Breunig, Carolyn (Leo) Hellenbrand, and Margie (Neil) Breunig. He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Breunig; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth (Betty) Marx; sister-in-law, Jane (Marx) Wackerle; brother-in-law, James Hoffman; and his nephew, Marty Breunig. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2015 Parmenter St., Middleton, at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, April 16, 2014. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church, on Wednesday. I remember my cousin Larry as a wonderfully kind and peaceful man. Even though I didn't see him very often, I knew our family ties ran deep and our parent's faith and family loyalty is a steady connection for the large Breunig clan that we both are a part of.
