Peter Doering

Doering, Peter Carl MILWAUKEE/MADISON-Peter Carl Doering, age 89, of Madison, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. He was born on Nov. 29, 1924, in West Allis, the son of Peter Casper and Bessie M. (Winters) Doering. He married Arline Dorothy Harrass on Sept. 15, 1946 at Lutheran Memorial chapel in Shorewood, Wis. Peter was in the U.S. Navy from Jan. 5, 1944 until May 9, 1946. He attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering for one year. Peter was employed by Wisconsin Bell for 35 years and three months, beginning in July, 1947, and retiring in October, 1982. He held various positions in Milwaukee, Lake Geneva, Madison, Burlington and finally in Milwaukee/Waukesha where he was a training supervisor at the training center, one of his favorite positions with the company. Peter was a Boy Scout Leader and a member of the H.W. Schroeder Life Member Club of the AT&T Pioneers. He enjoyed volunteering for various projects as an AT&T Pioneer along with his AT&T Pioneer wife, Arline and their daughter, Karen. One of his favorite projects was making posters of the thank you notes and pictures from military personnel who received Pioneer care packages while deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan for the H.O.M.E. project (Helping Our Military Everyday). Peter sang in the Wisconsin Bell Choir in Milwaukee as well as Barbershop Quartets for many years. Music was a passion for him. For years, he recorded many videos and loved collaborating them with music from his extensive collection of records and tapes. He was a videographer for the Marion Landing group in Ocala, Florida for their fabulous talent shows and plays. When they lived in Lake Geneva, Peter umpired for the local baseball leagues and semi-pro baseball leagues. To the very end, he critiqued the Brewer umpires on a daily basis. Peter and Arline are currently members of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church. In various churches where they were members, Peter served a variety of board positions including council president. He loved working out in his yard, down in his workshop, and relaxed by putting together jigsaw puzzles and then framing them for hanging around the house. Dad lived a long, full life. While his body may have failed him, he was still sharp as a tack right up to the end. He was always open to “discuss” a variety of issues. Peter is survived by his wife, Arline; three daughters, Christine Ohler of Bush, La., Karen (Steele) Schilling of Madison and Kathryn Doering of Cedarburg; grandchildren, Kari (Chas) Dean, Ashley Boutan , Tony (Johanna) Schilling, Peter Boutan, Tara Boutan, Vanessa Brogli, Dan Brogli, Wendy (Peter) Teska and Joe Schilling; great-grandchildren, Anstin Boutan, Rachel Teska, Miles, Aidan and Chase Koepp, and Mackenzie and Brenna Dean; sister, Joyce Kirwin; sister-in-law, Penny Harrass; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Harry E. Ross; granddaughter, Rashawn Boutan; sisters, Carol Doering and Marguerite Keen; brothers-in-law, John Keen, Bryce Kirwin, Franklin Harrass, Vernon Harrass and Edgar Harrass, sisters-in-law, Jeannette Kroncke, Dorothy Harrass and Dorothy Claire Harrass; and nephews, David Harrass and Bill Kroncke. Funeral Services will be held at ST. STEPHEN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5700 Pheasant Hill Rd., Monona, Wis., at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014, with Pastor Tim Hansen and Pastor Nick Utphall concelebrating. Burial will be held at Good Hope Cemetery in Greenfield, Wis., at 3 p.m. on Friday. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
