Obituary

REMY, RONALD D. “RON” MONONA- Ronald D. “Ron” Remy of Madison, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 8, 2014. He was born and raised in Madison, the first child of Vernon and Lillian (Moen) Remy. He married Kathleen Meyers on October 8, 1960. Ron was a 1949 graduate of Madison West High School. He made lifelong friends with many classmates and helped organize later class reunions. Ron was a patriotic man and proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954. He returned home to attend the UW-Madison. He had a talent for administration and had a long career in the State of Wisconsin Department of Industry, Labor and Human Relations (DILHR), retiring as Director of the Bureau of Safety Inspection in 1990. Ron was a quiet, caring and self-reliant individual who could fix anything. He was a community-oriented person and was involved in the early years of the Planning Commission for the growing Village, now City, of Monona. Ron was an active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish since its inception, and also a member of the American Legion. Ron loved the outdoors. He was an avid bird watcher, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He supported several wildlife conservation organizations. Ron was a devoted husband to Kathleen, particularly during the last years of her life. He and Kathleen shared a passion for collecting antiques. Ron was a wonderful and exemplary husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His strength, wisdom and wit will be greatly missed by those who knew him. The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to the friends and neighbors who took time to check up on him and help out with household tasks with increasing frequency over the past few years; we know he was deeply grateful for your efforts. Ron is survived by his children; Chris (Lynne) Remy and Melanie Remy; his two grandchildren, Clare and Gregory Remy; and his brothers Jerald (Yvonne) Remy and Richard (Jean) Remy and their families. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Lillian; his wife, Kathleen; a sister-in-law, Edith Remy; and several other in-laws. A Mass of Christian Burial will held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. with Father John Silva presiding. Burial will be at St. Raphael’s Frenchtown Cemetery near Belleville. Ron’s family would like to extend a very special “thank you” to Patricia DeSmidt, whose dear friendship with Ron over the past seven years gave him the chance to enjoy a fulfilling life after the passing of his wife, Kathleen, in 2007. My heart goes out to your family as well. My childhood memory of growing up next door on Mesa Road is a fine one that I'll always treasure. When my parents got older, Ron was a huge help in keeping watch over them and their house. I always enjoyed having long conversations with him when I came back to visit. He was interested in just about any topic! And he took such pride in your family home! For as long back as I can remember he was out working in the yard. He had a great sense of humor and he was a very caring man, especially in your Mom's last years. All my best to you in your time of need, Chip Breitwieser

Chris and Melanie, I am so sorry to here of your Dad's passing. He was a good man. At family gatherings I always sought out your Dad for conversation. He was always understanding and had a keen wit about him. He will truly be missed ! He is now with your Mom who he stood by throughout her lengthy illness. They are smiling down on their loved ones so that should bring you some comfort. We will keep them in our prayers. Sincerely, Larry Meyers
