Ione Elmer

Elmer, Ione J. MADISON – Ione J. Elmer, age 94, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Oak Park Place. She was born on April 30, 1919, in Cottage Grove, the daughter of Raymond and Ada (Peterson) Johnson. Ione was united in marriage to William Elmer in June, 1938, in Dubuque, Iowa. She graduated from Cottage Grove High School. Ione worked for Rayovac for 28 years until her retirement. She loved spending time with her three grandchildren; and all her great-grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren. Ione enjoyed gardening, bowling leagues, trips with friends, playing cards and trips to Florida. She is survived by her three grandchildren, Kim (Shane) McCann, Chris (Denise) Hrubes and Craig (Julie) Hrubes; great-grandchildren, Shannon (Christian), Heather, Lucas, Aubrey, Aaron, Emmy and Maddy; and great-great grandchildren, Tyler, Austin and Hannah. Ione was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Roberta Hrubes-Sinclair; a sister, Anita Thorstad; and brothers, Rodney, Lyman and Clayton. Funeral Services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014, with Pastor Susan Schneider presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
