Obituary
MADISON - Some things about Ray Shaw: He was just hours away from celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife, Linda, when he passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014. A pretty funny guy, he always had a story to share or joke to tell. He was a window treatment expert thanks to a sales career that started at Graber Co. in Middleton and took him to Charlotte and Winston-Salem, N.C. He liked golf, especially when it involved Bingo, Bango, Bongo and his nephews and sons-in-law. He didn’t like hiking on Father’s Day (but went anyway!). When it came to home improvements, he always accepted a helping hand. He made a mean brandy old-fashioned. He was a travelin’ man, visiting all 50 states and multiple countries. He enjoyed pinochle, cribbage, scrabble, and an occasional visit to Ho-Chunk. He could promenade and do-si-do with the best of ‘em. His brothers were named Tom, Dick, and Harry (no lie!). He had friends all around the country and world. He loved a really good peach. He will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by his wife, Linda; his daughters Sally Wood, Sandi (Ron) Reichert, and Melissa (Ed) Pierick; his grandchildren: Tristan and Mason, Ben and Owen, Erin, Nora, and Renee; his sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. A special thanks to Pat and Roxanne, Staci Marrese-Wheeler and the staff at Agrace HospiceCare. Memorial Services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014, with the Rev. Staci Marrese-Wheeler presiding. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ray’s name to Lakeview Moravian Church or the Madison Jazz Society. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Linda, Sally, Sandy, Missy. Wow. Where to start. I am blown away and not able to grab my thoughts at the moment. Simply put, Ray was one of the nicest, best people I ever had the privilege to know. I know where he went, and I pray to God that I can end up in the same place so we can meet again.
My sincere condolences. Love you guys. Steve Swidarski

To the Shaw women... deepest condolences to you all as you grieve the loss of your husband and father. What a great man. As I was telling Linda at the party on Saturday... my fondest memories of him are seeing him and your mom in their square dancing outfits... they always looked so sharp and happy and I remember being so excited when I got to take square dancing in the fifth grade. Your parents always made it look like so much fun! Blessings to you all. And ask my dad where he was when Ray transitioned... I'm sure it was the "Sal" in him that made it happen. :) And right behind the Monona golf course... hmmmmm

Never seen anyone who could keep their cool on the golf course like Ray. Going to miss his emails.

When I was a little girl, my Uncle Ray used to keep me stocked with what he called "noodles" so that I could make pot holders to sell door to door. Guess he was trying to make me into a sales woman. Sorry, that didn't work! I loved having him as my Uncle and I'm sad knowing that he isn't on this earth any longer. But so grateful that he is reunited with his brothers and sister (my mom).

Here's a guy that always made us feel at home. He always had a joke, and was never "down". We'll truly miss him
