Edith Olsen

EVANSVILLE – Edith M. Olsen, age 88, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, March 4, 2014. She was born on Feb. 17, 1926, at the family farm, just east of Evansville, Wis. After graduating from Evansville High School, Edith enrolled in the Madison General Hospital School of Nursing as part of the World War II Cadet Nursing program. Following graduation and passing her Wisconsin Registered Nurse exams, she became a nurse at the Green Lake Baptist Assembly Grounds. On July 1, 1947, she met Robert Olsen. Fifteen days later they became engaged. They were married on Dec. 28, 1947, at Edith's home church in Evansville. Edith worked as a nurse at several hospitals over the years, but her focus was on family, friends and her Lord Jesus. She will be fondly remembered for her many gifts, talents, and interests. Edith enjoyed knitting, sewing, camping, bird watching and making applesauce. She is survived by three sons, Dennis (Jean), Lawrence (Faith) and Steven; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Christensen; and many other dear family and friends. She was preceded in death by Robert, her husband of 64 years; her parents, Victor and Maude Tullis; and sisters, Evelyn, Lois and Doris. A Celebration of Edith's Life will be held at GRACE EVANGELICAL CHURCH, 4127 County AB, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014, with Pastor Jeremy Straus presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Interment will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Evansville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Edith's name to the Alzheimer Association or Grace Evangelical Church. The family thanks the Oak Park Place memory care staff for their care and support.
