Johnson, Lyle Edwin, MADISON, WIS./EDINA, MINN. - Lyle Edwin Johnson, age 84, of Edina, Minn., formerly of Madison, died on Thursday, March 6, 2014, from Alzheimer’s Disease. Born on April 8, 1929, in Hanna City, Ill. Lyle served two years in the U.S. Army in Japan during the Korean War as a cook. His cooking skills led to an early career in restaurant management. He met his wife on a blind date and married her in 1957. They spent most of their lives in Madison where he worked for Bowman Dairy for 20 years, then drove a bus for Madison Metro. They enjoyed playing bridge, eating out, and neighborhood gatherings. After his wife’s death, he moved to Minnesota to be near family. Lyle enjoyed golfing, bowling, horseshoes, cars, house projects, and his grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Koeppel of Peoria, Ill.; his brother, Donald (Noreen) Johnson of Carmel, Ind.; his daughter, Sherrie (Mark) Hornung and her children Stephanie, Matthew, and Michael of Chanhassen, Minn.; and his step-son, Steven Jensen and his four sons of Madison. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Betty J. (Stillman/Jensen) Johnson; parents, John H. and Helen (Neff) Johnson; and his brother, George Johnson. Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2014, beginning at 3 p.m., at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison. Funeral Services to celebrate Lyle’s life, will begin at 4 p.m. on Sunday, with the Rev Jerry Amstutz presiding. Military honors will be conducted following the service. Burial will take place on Monday, March 17, 2014, at 9 a.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com

To Lyle's family. I remember for so many years how Lyle brought your Mom into our Salon to have Shirley do her hair. While there, I would trim his hair and visit with him. I enjoyed him very much. He was a very nice and caring man. May he and Mom rest in Eternal Peace. Jim Ryan
