Obituary

SPRECHER, EDWARD ALLEN COTTAGE GROVE – Edward Allen Sprecher, age 91, of Cottage Grove, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, one day shy of his and Flora’s 67th anniversary. He was born on April 25, 1922, in Madison, the only child of Lyman and Ruth (Stair) Sprecher. Ed spent his entire life farming, first in Madison, then in Cottage Grove where they moved in 1960 when their farm was sold for the interstate expansion. He was brought as a child to Madison Gospel Tabernacle (now City Church) in 1933, where he remained an active member his entire life. Along with farming, church was a major part of his life and where he met his loving wife, Flora (Napper). They were wed on Feb. 26, 1947, in her parent’s home, followed by a honeymoon in California. Ed is survived by his wife, Flora; sons, John (Rebecca) of Rockford, Ill., and Paul (Deedee) of Scituate, Mass.; five grandchildren, Deborah (Danny) Whittaker, Rachel (Brad) Bounds, Joel (Jenn) Sprecher, David Sprecher and Sean Sprecher; and five great-grandchildren. Ed will be remembered as a man of honesty, integrity and kindness. He was known by his family as never raising his voice and lived a life exemplary of a true Christian. Ed read his Bible through each year and prayed faithfully for his family, church, friends and country. He will be greatly missed. We are grateful for the godly heritage he has left for generations to follow. Funeral services will be held at CITY CHURCH, 4909 E Buckeye Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to City Church Missions or Agrace HospiceCare. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. Flora, John and Paul: My condolences on Ed's passing. I just happened on his obituary when viewing the page where my first cousin was also listed. I remember him well from the year I worked and lived on the farm in Cottage Grove. From my perspective he was everything the obit said he was. It was an interesting and educational experience working with him and on the farm for that year. I remember him as a hard working man and was often impressed with how well he got along for his age. He had a lot of energy. My daughters who came to visit me on weekends remember him and Flora. I hope all of you are well. Mike Disch
