Obituary
CAIN, JOHN W.
MADISON- John W. Cain Jr., age 75, of Madison, passed away on Sunday Jan. 12, 2014. He was born on Nov. 15, 1938, in Madison, to John Wilbur Cain, Sr. and Bette M. (Anderson) Cain. After graduating from Wisconsin High School, he went on to attend the Chicago Art Institute. Upon returning to Madison, John worked for the family business, Cain Ashcraft Furniture, before starting his own business, John Cain Furniture. In the 1970’s, he developed an interest in alternative health care by studying homeopathy in the USA as well as in Canada and Italy. John also studied Life Sciences at the U.W. as a special student. In the 1980’s he, along with good friend/healer, Dr. Rosemary Rau-Levine, developed a homeopathic business with world-wide sales, Celletech, Ltd., which he continued to run until September, 2012. John made it possible for many women to have flexible work schedules long before that was possible in a workplace. His broad interests in life were legendary; there was nothing he enjoyed more than a discussion with others. John’s genuine care for others and his outrageous sense of humor were appreciated by those who knew him. From Frank Lloyd Wright, cars, biking, music, politics, standard poodles to tractors, bicycling, repairing anything, music, tree trimming, bird watching, Harry Potter, John embraced many aspects of life. John especially loved spending time at his land near Mineral Point. He was extremely proud of and enjoyed spending time with his grandsons. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Temple and Patrick Palmer; grandsons, Dylan and Dalton; special friend, Andrea Torres and her son Daniel (who considered John as a step-father), daughter, Shana Cain, brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Judy Cain; nephews and nieces, Christopher, Travis, Amy and Melanie. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his beloved son, Brennan. A Memorial Service will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL HOME, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at 3 p.m., on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Temple and Shaunna, i just read about your fathers passing. We are so sorry to hear he is gone. Thru the years we haven't seen much of him but we have many fond memories especially when you kids were younger.
We are leaving for Florida the 27th so we will not be able to attend the memorial but will be thinking good thoughts that day.
Temple, I wanted to call you but don't know your married name so this is the best way to get in touch. Sincere sympathy, Nancy and Gene Urso

I only saw John after high school graduation at the few class reunions we had. Conversations with him continued to be as interesting as they had been at Wisconsin High. I am sorry for your loss.

When I think of John, I fondly remember an incident in a math class. John had not done very well in the test because the decimal points that he used were not easily read by the teacher. John asked for reconsideration of his grade but the teacher would not change his grade. The teacher told John to make his decimal points more legible in the future. On the next test John used exaggerated, large decimal points. The teacher then gave him the nickname "Cannon Ball" Cain.
I will always have fond memories of John.
My condolences to family and friends of John.

If it was not for Rosemary Rau-Levine. John and my path would have not of crossed
in 1979. He keep me updated on the homeopathic stuff and in return I gave him
a businessman's prospective on things. I heard a cheer went up among all the
raccoons out at his place on the Pecatonica river where they plotted against him..
I saw John the week before and he was at peace when we talked. I know how to
deal with raccoons so we always had something to talk about.
I think I well have to put in a good word to the big cheese for John

I first meet John as a client, seeing him for homeopathic remedies. Later I worked for him at Celltech in the lab making the homeopathic remedies. I think I was one of the first hired at Celltech. After getting married and being 7 months pregnant I left that position. My husband Ken and I have remained good friends with John. We have each helped celebrate milestone birthdays over the years. Enjoyed going to John's place near Dodgeville. Always will be grateful for his candor and his company. I remember he had an interested in the history of sayings, curious about the origins. We love you John, may the wind be at your back! Happy trails to you...
