Obituary
FITCHBURG-John Kosel, age 83, passed away December 17, 2013, at Sebring Gardens Assisted Living with his wife and daughter at his side. He was born September 27, 1930, in St. Joseph, Minn. He graduated from St. Cloud State University, and then proudly served in the U.S. Army in Europe. Upon his return, he worked as a corporate accountant, ending his career at Land’s End in Dodgeville. He was a strong, gentle man with a great sense of humor and a passion for golf and football. Nothing gave him more joy than the time he spent with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Charlene; five step-children, Sheryl, Marcia, James, Kenneth, and Nadine; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Arlene Schaefer and Mary Baker; and his brother, Robert Kosel; as well as many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC PARISH, 5313 Flad Ave, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Our gratitude to the Fitchburg Police and EMS, friends and neighbors, whose assistance allowed him to live at home a few extra months, and to the staff at Sebring for their loving care these past four years, as well as staff from Agrace HospiceCare. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin. Online condolences may be made to www.gundersonfh.com.

Uncle Johnny had a great attitude! He was always positive. He was especially kind to my brother, Tommy, who had muscular dystrophy and spent most of his life in a wheelchair. Now, because its close to Christmas, I remember all those Christmas Eve's at Grandma & Grandpa's house and the Christmas mornings for Tom & Jerry's at the Osters.
There is, however, one personal memory that I would like to share. When I was just a kid Uncle Johnny took me to the Dairy Queen on 25th & Division on my birthday and bought me a banana split. This was especially cool because we went in his convertible with the top down and I got to sit in the front passenger seat. I'm 65 today and I still remember.
