Obituary

MADISON-Shirley Ann Pittman, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, after a long illness with COPD. She was surrounded in her final days by her loving husband and children. Shirley was born on Dec. 22, 1934, in Madison, the daughter of Edward and Myrtle (Helman) Schnurbusch. While growing up on the east side of Madison she loved swimming and ice skating at Tenney Park. Shirley attended Madison East High School. She met and married Eugene “Gene” Pittman, and raised four loving children. Shirley was a homemaker and stay at home mom. Her family was the center of her life. She enjoyed working at Arlan’s department store in Madison for a few years. Shirley loved yearly family vacations in northern Wisconsin and Fox Lake. Some of Shirley’s passions were knitting, canning and reading mystery novels. Her favorite author was James Patterson. She enjoyed watching girl’s high school basketball every year. Shirley loved birds, especially cardinals and she loved to hear them sing. She received many cardinal collectibles over the years. Shirley is survived by her husband, Eugene; her children, Pamela (David) Schulte, Lori (Robert) Prince, David (Cindy) Pittman and Gregg (Amie) Pittman; her grandchildren, Heather, Mike, Mark, Michelle, Deb, April, Natalie and Faye; many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; sisters, Patricia Sanner and Diane Seymour; and a brother, Thomas Rendall. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant twin daughters; step-father, Thomas Rendall; and a sister, Donna Brey. Funeral services will be on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Noon at the GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr. with Chris Sanner presiding. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held on Monday at 10:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Many thanks to the staff at the Don and Marilyn Hospice Center for making Shirley comfortable. Uncle Eugene and family, Kevin and I have so many found memories of Aunt Shirley as she was a very special lady! We will miss her wonderful personality, loving laugh, amazing memory to share stories and her wonderful homemade breads!! Kevin and her had some wonderful laughs about her bird Pete! Aunt Shirley --- There only one Aunt Shirley....She was a very simple, honest and loving women but man could she bake.... That tin of Choc Chip Cookies she brought to the farm for deer hunting was either eaten within a two hour time frame upon her arrival or they just disappeared somewhere.... and her Grand Champion Banana Bread that went to the Dunn County Fair.... Aunt Shirley was always there .. Just pulled the bread from the freezer and away we went to the fair - remember that Sarah and Kayla.... Everyone has their lasting memories that will be instilled in our hearts... and by the way....can't forget the Deer Bones necklaces she made for everyone.....nothing went unused in her lifetime - she was an example of a great person! Uncle Gene, Pam, Lori, David and Gregg, my family’s love goes out to you for the loss of Aunt Shirley. We have many fond memories of her. The Jenn, Jess and Jill remember that Aunt Shirley was the lead cheerleader with her bone necklace during the many deer hunts. They remember the chocolate chips cookies, banana bread and other tasty bake goods. We would learn from all her stories, and when we asked, she would provide great advice on all life lessons and situations. We will treasure all the great memories of her life. This is a celebration of her eternal life with God, and some day we all will be with her again. Our thought and prayers go out to your family and with Aunt Shirley. God Bless and Love.
