Mrs. Margaret Pauline Rustick

MONONA – Margaret Pauline Rustick, age 97, passed away peacefully at home on Dec. 20, 2013. Margaret was born on Oct. 13, 1916, to Peder and Synneva Hill at their farm in Lodi, the second of five children. Margaret’s mother passed away when Margaret was only ten years old and two years later, her father was stricken with tuberculosis and institutionalized. The siblings were split up between relatives and neighbors, and Margaret lived with her Aunt Christine in Lodi until she finished high school. She then moved to Madison where she worked as a pastry assistant and waitress at Barron’s Tea Room on the Square. This is where she met her husband and the love her life, Eddie, who was working there as a dishwasher. They were married on Dec. 30, 1941. Margaret’s joy in life was to be a beloved wife and mother. She was patient, kind, and gave her family unconditional love. Margaret also had a great sense of humor. When the children were grown, she enjoyed following politics, reading historical fiction, and doing crossword puzzles. In later years, Margaret and Ed enjoyed a brandy before dinner with their visiting children. Margaret is survived by her husband, Edward; a brother, Norman Hill and sister in law, Jean Hill; four children, David, Robert, Daniel (Deborah), and Susan; four grandchildren, Dana (Brad) Rice, Denise Frisch, Danielle, and Daniel Jr., four great-grandchildren, Austin and Brandon Rice and Payton and Matthew Frisch; a niece, Rebecca Bowler; a great niece, Grace Bowler; and at least two cousins, Muriel Kleinsmith and Kay Heggestad. She was predeceased by her brother Peder, her sister Myrtle, and her sister and brother-in-law, Catherine and Robert Bowler. Funeral services will be held at MONONA LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4411 Monona Dr., Monona, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, with the Rev. John Reinke presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Monona, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, as well as from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday.
