Robert G Ellis

FITCHBURG-Robert G. Ellis, age 84, of Fitchburg, passed away on Nov. 2, 2013, at Meriter Hospital. Bob was born in Oneonta, N.Y., on June 4, 1929, to Lyle and Eva (Harris) Ellis. He married Glenna Wetmore in Lynn, Mass., on Aug. 14, 1951. Bob attended Gordon College in Boston, Mass., and graduated from Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. He served with the U.S. Army with the 11th Airborne during the Korean War. Bob was an employee at Burroughs Corporation. After leaving Burroughs, he opened a business called Computer Utilities where he sold computerized accounting software. After retiring, Bob became actively involved with tennis playing with friends at the UW Neilson Center and teaching young children the basics of tennis. He coached the Portage High School girl’s tennis team. In addition, he taught stain class, woodworking, and scroll saw technique. Bob is survived by his wife, Glenna; children, Catherine Franks, Cynthia Stahl, Eileen Ellis, Carolyn Mitchell, and Gerald R. Elis; grandchildren, Nathan and Briana Franks, Ryan, Carina, and Brandon Stahl, and Devin and Chase Mitchell. A Memorial service for Bob will be held at FIRST UNITARIAN SOCIETY, 900 University Bay Dr., Madison, at the Landmark building, at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013.
