Dorothy Smail

MADISON-Dorothy Smail, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, with her two daughters at her side. She was born on April 20, 1922, to Charles and Andrina (Bakken) Spader. Dorothy married Clinton Smail on April 19, 1941. He preceded her in death on March 20, 1995. Dorothy was a longtime resident of Madison. She is survived by her three children, Darlene Woldt of Madison, Cheryl (Chuck) Wolfgram of Waterloo, and Gary Smail of Fla.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends from the Maher Avenue neighborhood, Dairyland Restaurant, Williamstown Bay East apartment building, and Chamomile Assisted Living. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, watching the Packers, watching the TV game shows, playing bingo, and working on her Word Puzzle books. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clinton; son, Larry; grandson, Derek Walsvick; son-in-law, Duane Woldt; brothers, Charles Spader and Edward Spader; twin brother, Donald Spader; and sisters, Marion Smail, Charlotte Niehus, and Margaret Bass. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Lake Edge United Church of Christ.
