Obituary

MADISON – Raymond Riphon, age 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at Agrace HospiceCare, Fitchburg. He was born on Sept. 18, 1924, in Middleton, the son of Edward and Isabelle (Berg) Riphon. Raymond graduated from East High School in 1944. Raymond met Violet B. Tjugum, the love of his life, in 1947. They were united in marriage on Sept. 3, 1949. Together they raised three wonderful children and were married for 58 years. Ray worked briefly for the Dept. of Agriculture and finished his career working at Oscar Mayer Foods. He retired in 1985 after 38 years of service. Ray was a devoted husband and father and cherished the time he spent with his family. Ray was an avid outdoorsman. He also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, bowling, dancing, going to movies and attending his grandchildren’s activities. Raymond is survived by two sons, Jim (Shari) Riphon of Lodi, and Richard (Kathy) Riphon of Madison; a daughter, Linda (Tim) Stanley of Monona; eight grandchildren, Kyle(special friend Lola), Kristi, Ryan, Alyssa, Adam(special friend Dana), Aaron, Alex(Fiancée Erin) and Austin; a great-granddaughter, Karly; a sister, Marian Doherty of Madison; and many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Violet; his parents; and a sister, Bernice Dulek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. BERNARD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2438 Atwood Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, with Rev. Michael Radowicz presiding. Visitation will be at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr. Monona, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013. There will also be a visitation at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff of Oak Park Place, Aster Assisted Living, and Agrace HospiceCare. We would also like to thank a special friend, Jeanne (Howard) Druckenmiller. He enjoyed your visits and attending church with you. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and neighbors.
