Obituary

MADISON - Robert M. “Bob” Johnson, age 81, longtime resident of Madison, left this earth peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, after a brief illness. Bob was born on March 24, 1932, in Melvina, the sixth and youngest child of Oliver and Minnie Johnson. He attended school in Cashton and Sparta. After completing school, Bob enlisted in the Air Force. He served in Alaska during the Korean War and later spent time based in San Antonio, Texas. After leaving the Air Force, Bob settled in Madison with his wife Rose, where he attended Madison Business College for a program in business administration. He worked briefly as an accountant for Gardner Bakery Company, then took a job at Ohio Chemical Company. This company became known as Ohio Medical Company, then Ohmeda, and when some operations moved to Anaquest Corporation Bob moved along with them, and worked there until he retired in 1994. Bob also spent many years working part-time preparing taxes for H&R Block. Bob and Rose raised a family and had 42 years together before she died. On June 8, 1998, Bob married Pat York (Rochon) of Dodgeville. Bob was a devoted husband and father and had a wonderful sense of humor that lasted until the very end. He was someone you could always count on. Bob enjoyed golfing, travel, bowling, socializing with family and friends, and all the simple pleasures that life has to offer. He had an avid interest in history, business, and politics, and took pride in being financially responsible. Bob will be missed but we will always be grateful for what he taught us about life. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and three brothers. He is survived by his wife, Pat; son, Kevin Johnson of Monroe; daughter, Kim Kneebone of Madison; grandson, Justin Johnson of Monroe; granddaughters, Melissa (Patrick) Hermann of Sun Prairie, Abigail (Jason) Masek of Urbandale, Iowa, Ashley Johnson of Eau Claire; and a brother, Orville Johnson of Waupun. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013.
