Evelyn Margaret Peterson

Evelyn Margaret Peterson (nee Baum), age 88, passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2013. Evelyn was born to Marie (Habedank) and Henry Baum on August 16, 1925 in Chicago. She grew up in Cicero, IL and graduated from Morton High School. Evelyn attended Elmhurst College and later transferred to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where she graduated with a degree in Home Economics in 1948. She worked for a short time as a dietician and later worked at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. While attending university, she met her husband John Peterson. They were married on December 16, 1949 in Williamsville, NY. Ev and John moved to Elmhurst, IL in 1950. While living in Elmhurst, Ev was very active raising a family and volunteering in her church and the community. She taught Sunday school for many years at St. Peters United Church of Christ in Elmhurst and was deeply involved in an associated charity called The Clothes Closet, providing clothes for needy people. In 1989, Ev and John retired to Cross Plains, WI where Ev continued her church and community activities including extensive work with Middleton Outreach Ministry in Middleton, WI. She enjoyed reading, swimming, and outdoor activities. She is survived by her husband, John; three sons, Tom (Sue Glad), Jim, and Dave (Cindy); a daughter, Nancy (Dagfinn Eriksen); and seven grandchildren, Eric (Vanessa Merina), Karin, Cait, Claudia, Emma, Ian and Leif. A memorial service will be held at WEST MIDDLETON LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3763 Pioneer Road, Verona at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 26, 2013, with the Reverend Ted Lindquist presiding.
