It is sad for the loss of a cherished love one, a friend and companion, an integral part of a large and spread out village, a loyal friend and partner, and how it is affecting so many in that shared community. Darren and I were friends from college and shared many good times. One time we joined some other friends from Madison in Florida over winter break. We all went to a jai alai game together and Darren overheard some men discussing the winning numbers for the upcoming match. He wanted to bet all of our money on those numbers at the event, but no one else was willing to take that chance. We did, however, place a small bet on them. Of course those numbers did win, but Darren didn't gloat about it because was an easy-going, go-with-the flow sort of guy. He was kind, interesting, smart, fun to be around, and so proud to be married to Annie, the love of his life.
