Obituary
MADISON-Lee V. Virnig, age 60, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at the VA Hospital. He was born on Nov. 6, 1952, the son of Mary (Tobias) and Vincent Virnig. Lee served in the US Army and Army National Guard for over 22 years. He served active duty in Elefsina, Greece. Lee retired as Master Sergeant. He was a certified electrician with IBEW Local 159. Growing up, Lee was a “beach kid” living on Lake Waubesa. He was an avid sports fan, with an encyclopedic command of stats and sports history. Lee particularly loved the Packers and all Wisconsin sports. He was a camper and outdoorsman who loved being in nature. No wildlife went unfed around him. Lee was a faithful blood donor. Having a rare blood type, Lee felt a responsibility to share his gift. He donated countless gallons over a span of 30 years. Lee is survived by his daughter, Emily (Joe) Feistel; close friend, Ann Grote; step-daughter, Samantha Neely; and brother, Dennis Virnig. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at Noon on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, with Pastor Bob Groth presiding. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross. Lee was a strong, generous and independent man. He was a kind and caring father, and a friend to all who knew him.

I was shocked to learn of Lee's death. When I was pastor of Holy Mother of Consolation, Oregon, Lee was my sacristan and faithful "go to guy." He was always most helpful. I jokingly told him that he could celebrate the Mass, if I couldn't be there. Was always volunteering for the various outreach programs, especially Luke House. When I was transferred three years ago, I am sorry to say that we lost touch. He and the family are certainly in my prayers. Grateful for having known him. May he rest in peace!

My deepest sympathy to Lee's Family. Lee and I served in the Wisconsin
Army National Guard for several years together. He was a great guy, friend and soldier. I'm sorry I can not attend his Funeral. May
god welcome him now. Best Wishes, Dave Wissbaum alias Wizz.
