Obituary

MADISON-Gerald S. “Jerry” Buss, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Sept. 27, 2013, while fishing in Northern Wisconsin. He was born on March 11, 1944, the second of six sons, to Elmer and Rosella (Lund) Buss. Jerry graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1962, then attended college to earn his degree while he continued to work. He began working at American Printing in 1968, and worked his way to President in 1986, retiring in 2001. What Jerry loved most in his life was his family: His wife Jean, son Steve, daughter Amy, and more importantly his three granddaughters. Oh….. and we can’t forget his dog “Bodie”. He also enjoyed his cabin in Manitowish Waters, fishing with his family and friends, snowmobiling, and any type of racing. His love of the Northwoods of Wisconsin has been with him all his life. He also liked out-fishing his son and out-racing his daughter. He was competitive, but always in fun and humility. Jerry and Jean also cherished their house together which they bought in 1965, and Jerry still lived in today. He was a man of faith and cherished his church, Hope Lutheran Church in McFarland. Jerry is survived by his son, Steve (Angie) Buss, daughter Amy (Jeff) Zapp, granddaughters Gretchen & Nichole Buss, MacKenzie Zapp and special friend and newfound love, Patty Hustad, with whom he spent many cherished moments; four brothers, Wayne (Marsha) Buss, Phil (Beth) Buss, Donny (Tara) Buss, and Randy Buss; sister-in-law, Jane Shaub; and brother-in-law, Ken Jacobson. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean; parents Elmer and Rosella and brother, Dick (Gay) Buss. Funeral services will be held at HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 3702 County Road AB, McFarland, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, 2013 with the Rev. Chris Lee Thompson presiding. Burial will follow at Hope Cottage Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, as well as from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to the Sawyer County Dive Team or to K9 Emergency Response Team of Wisconsin, http://kert.synthasite.com/donations.php. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the owners of Lakewoods Lodge in Cable WI for their support and generosity, Brian and Roger Korfmacher for their unbelievable dedication, the Sawyer county dive team, and Officers Thomas Renz and Dan Clark with the Bayfield County Sheriff’s office. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. Jerry was a man of integrity and his legacy will continue on through all those whose lives he touched.

"The greatness of a loss is not so much determined by what is lost, but by what is left behind." Everybody he met will never forget what a loving and kind man he was.

Our sincere condolences to the family for the untimely passing of Jerry. I just talked with him in Manitowish Waters a few weeks ago and this comes as a complete shock. We enjoyed working with Jerry and Jean when they found their Manitowish Waters home and know that they thoroughly enjoyed the years they had there and the memories that were made. Keep those memories close - they will help you through the days ahead. Judi and Bud Arnold

"He was such a great neighbor!" That's what my mom, Jean Warzyn, told me when we learned of his unfortunate fishing accident. " When we woke up after a night snowfall, Jerry already had our driveway plowed, including the handwork." Those comments and others regarding Jerry's willingness to help at anytime tell the kind of man Jerry was.....always there for others. My parents were thrilled when Jerry's daughter and family bought their house so they could live close to "Grandpa". We are deeply saddened and hope that you will, in time, find peace.
