Obituary

WINDSOR-Steven Carl Sneider passed from this life and into the presence of God on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, with family at his side. As much as he loved the greenery of his home in Windsor, and the clear waters of his family’s lakeside cottage, he trusted Christ’s promise that a superior life awaited him in Heaven. His parents, William and Mary Alice (Altenbern) Sneider, welcomed him, their firstborn, on May 3, 1957, in Wausau. Within five years, two sisters and two brothers joined the family. Together they experienced active fun-filled days, including swimming and skiing at the lake with friends. Steve played sports at Wausau West High School, excelling at swimming, track and field, and snow skiing. Badgers and Packers games never failed to stir his competitive spirit. A curious and lifelong learner, Steve read widely. His studies made him a ready conversationalist, and often a resource, for his family and many friends. He earned a BS and an MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the UW-Madison. He began his career as a research engineer for Battelle Memorial Institute in the state of Washington, and also earned an MBA at the University of Washington. Through Battelle, he met his future wife. First introduced to Deanne Symbolik at a business meeting in Columbus, Ohio, Steve pursued her with determination until he won her hand in marriage on April 22, 1989. While career opportunities moved the couple to Chicago, New Hampshire, and Madison again, their two sons, William and Shea, were born. Steve treasured Will’s and Shea’s unique personalities and giftedness, and the three enjoyed sports and technology together. Throughout his valiant eighteen-month battle against terminal cancer, Steve remained present and devoted to his boys. Steve was passionate and loyal in his relationships with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice Sneider of Wausau; and mother-in-law, Betty Symbolik of Marysville, Ohio. Steve leaves behind his wife of 24 years, Deanne Symbolik; their sons, William and Shea Sneider of Windsor; siblings, Sue (Tom) Weimerskirch of Wausau, Eric Sneider of Wausau, Richard Sneider of Prairie du Sac, and Anne (Mike) Molling of Nacogdoches, Texas; Aunt Ann Towle of New York City; father-in-law, William Symbolik of Marysville, Ohio; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Bill Symbolik of Tavernier, Fla., Steve and Lorraine Adams of Columbus, Ohio, Bruce and Marcia Burkett of Williamsburg, Va., and Nancy Symbolik and Kelly Smith of Lancaster, Ohio; nieces, Jess Weimerskirch, Cailin Sneider, Jaimie Garrie, Caroline Adams, Alyssa Adams, Victoria Adams, Sarah Burkett; and nephews, Luke Weimerskirch, Seth Sneider, Wesley Sneider, Bryce Sneider, Jacob Molling, and Scott Burkett. Steve also leaves behind many dear friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUENRAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013. Friends are invited to a visitation at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday. Our condolence to the whole Sneider family. We have been "lake neighbors" for many years although we haven't gotten to know one another. Lolita Brumblay has often expressed to us her appreciation of Steve & Deanne for their caring help. I remember meeting the Sneider "kids" in the 60's and knew Bill & Alice. Our Sympathy.
