Obituary
Wednesday, September 11, 2013 our beautiful loving son and brother Nikolas Robert Van Slate was taken from us unexpectedly. He was such a loving, kind soul. Leaving us so soon has left his many friends and family heartbroken. Nikolas is survived by his deeply saddened parents Gary and Lisa Frey and his brother Tyler Van Slate. Also surviving our beautiful Niki Robert is his loving grandmother Karen, and known to gramps as "Rocky", his grandfather, Robert Van Slate. Also many aunts, uncles, cousins and hundreds of caring friends. Nik is also survived by his best friend Elizabeth Booth and his better half Crosby, his beloved dog. And of course, Narley Marley his cat. Nikolas was a great friend to many, loved kids and picking on them as much as possible. If you knew Nik, you loved him. He liked his sport, Brewers, Badgers, Chicago Bears and his true love of Hockey. Playing it for many years as a youth and regretting the knee injuries he sustained made him unable to truly play the game again in his young adult years! Nikolas went forward each day trying to fight a vicious battle that just finally overcame his sweet life. Nikolas was his Dad’s right hand man in the garage and they spent many hours of "tinkering" in that garage. Dad (Gary) always coming off another project with awe and pride in regards to the talent his boy had! He in return also had his compassionate side and worked hours alongside his mom doing anything she needed help with. Tyler and Nik shared their love of sports together as did many of his friends at all sports events, concerts, picnics and parties possible. One of Nikolas' favorite things to talk about was his Vegas trip with all his bro's! We thank each and every one of you for loving and sharing in Nik's life. He loved each and everyone of us unconditionally and without judgement. We will have a visitation on Sunday September 15th, 2013 from 1-4 pm at Gunderson Funeral Home - Monona and on Monday September 16th, from 1-3 pm at which time we will have his closing ceremony. This will also be held at Gunderson Funeral Home in Monona. Please bring any photos or letters you wish to send along with Nikolas, Niki Robert, Puss or Shady. You know he will enjoy each and every item. Following the service at Gunderson we will be going to Tullys II on Monona Drive for a luncheon. Please join us. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to Lisa Frey. Thank you Nikolas for all our beautiful memories. And going forward we may not be seeing you physically, but we are finding out each passing hour that you are sending us messages from above.
