Edythe Clarice Wichern,

MADISON-Edythe C. Wichern, age 84, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013, at Oak Park Rehabilitation Center. She was born on March 14, 1929, in LaCrosse, the daughter of Edwin and Annabelle McNitt. Edythe graduated from Madison East High School. She married Donald Wichern on March 1, 1950, in Madison. Edythe was employed by Wisconsin Bell for more than 25 years. She was a retired member of the CWA (Communication Workers of America), past secretary for 16 years of the CWA, longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, church choir member, past head teacher of Sunday School, hand bell senior choir member, a retired senior volunteer, Trinity quilter member, and a pioneer member of the telephone company. Edythe enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and blackjack. She also loved rosemaling, quilting, crocheting, and tole painting. Edythe is survived by her children, Marshall (Rebecca) Wichern, Charles (Kathy) Wichern, Douglas (Sheri) Wichern, and Connie (David) Mathison; daughter-in-law, Brenda Prieb; sister, Fay (Richard) Attewell ; brother, Truman McNitt; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Susan Guyant; son, Jeffrey; her parents; sisters, Dorothy Kienitz, Ethel Johnson, Helen Brendemuehl, Harriet Gore, Lucille Speas, Ruby McGrew, and Grace Jean McGregor; and brothers, Lee McNitt and Clarence McNitt. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, with the Rev. Susan Schneider presiding. Burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Baraboo at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, and also from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.
