Obituary
SUN PRAIRIE-David Herbert Hass, age 65, of Sun Prairie, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, at his home. He was born on Jan. 15, 1948, in Lansing, Mich., the son of Herbert and Marian (Bagg) Hass. David married Diane Eattoni on July 2, 1967, in Berrien Springs, Mich. He attended Andrews University for his undergraduate studies and received his master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame. David was the Director of Judicial Education for the Supreme Court of the State of Wisconsin. He was the guide, protector, and leader of his family. His achievements provided his family a quality of life we are lucky to have. His intelligence and experience provided the answers in difficult situations. David was selfless in his devotion to his wife, daughter, son, beloved grandchildren, mother-in-law, Kathleen Eattoni Dorff, and many others. He fulfilled his obligation to his family admirably. His family counted on him the most and he always delivered. He was a loving husband, loyal father, great friend, and a gentleman of a man. His unexpected death is a crushing loss and he will be missed beyond measure.
David is survived by his wife, Diane; son, Brian Hass; daughter, Shelly (Paul) Hoge; three grandchildren, Abby, Matt, and Nick Hoge; niece, Tracy (Jason) Sabatasse; and nephew, David (Marlene) Betke Jr. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jody Hass Lantz; and his parents.

Diane and family, Our thoughts and prayers are with you. David was really one of the good guys. I was fortunate to have gone to high school with him, and after college, to be able to work with him for many years at the Berrien County Family Court in St. Joseph, MI. During all that time I always liked and respected him. He was consistently a source of solid information and advice. In later years when he took a job in Lansing and then Wisconsin we had little contact, but I've always considered Dave a friend. I feel blessed to have known him. May you all be peaceful.

Diane and Family. Still find it hard to believe that you have lost your dear husband, father and son in law. His obituary was a beautiful rendition of a life nobly lived. Even though the last time I saw him was when he was quite young and very handsome I can tell by the photo that he was filled with wisdom and kindness. A true giant struck down way too young. It is men like him that the world needs more of. More of his experience and helpfulness. A deep tragedy has enfolded in his loss!! I continue to send prayers that God will bestow on you His Peace and buoy you up at a very dark moment in your lives. Sending much care and love your way. Lucille Weis.

Diane and family. We knew David in Michigan; in Berrien County. David was exceptional. He was dependable, reliable, and someone whose opinion was valued since it is was always measured and well thought out. David made a positive difference in the lives of all who came in contact with him. He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. I was fortunate to have worked with David during his time with the Berrien County Juvenile Court. He was a kind and caring man who helped me understand the law and the philosophy behind what goes on in juvenile court. He cared intently about the children in the cases he heard and he was able to ensure a safer future for hundreds of children (in neglect and abuse cases) due to his diligence in seeing that each child’s rights were protected. He taught me that each child in every case is more important than anyone else. Thank you David for your life and the impact it had on so many.
