George A. Bartels

MADISON-George A. Bartels, age 88, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on April 19, 1925, in Baraboo, the son of Albert and Sarah (Bastian) Bartels. He married Lucille Bartels on Feb. 28, 1953, in Madison. George was a carpenter by trade. He enjoyed time with family, playing cards, woodworking, and fishing at the cabin at Lake Holcombe. George is survived by his wife, Lucille (Mabis); daughter, Sandy (Mark) Heath; sons, Greg (Melanie) Bartels and Kevin (Amy) Bartels; grandchildren, Chad, Matthew, and Eric Heath, Emilie, Sarah, Heather, Gracie, and Alivia Bartels; sister, Carol Gilbertson of Illinois; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and a sister. Funeral services will be held at OUR SAVIOUR’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1201 Droster Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, with the Rev. Brad Homan presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday.
