Obituary
FITCHBURG-Harold J. “Red” Zweifel, age 93, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2013 at the Veteran’s Hospital. He was born on July 8, 1919 in Mt. Horeb, the son of Anton and Anna (Brieler) Zweifel. Red was the beloved husband of Ruby M. Larsen for 50 years, loving father of Susan (Pete) Lahm, loving grandfather to Mathew (Brenda) Lahm and best great-grandpa to Mason Lahm. Red served during World War II in Patton’s army. He was wounded and received the Purple Heart during fighting in the European Theatre. Despite significant lasting injury Red worked hard all his life. He owned a bar, managed a nightclub, delivered dry cleaning and milk, sold Fuller Brushes, drove semi and plowed snow for the city of Madison. Red finally retired (briefly) as a supervisor at the new city recycling center. He then went on working to age 85. Red and Ruby wintered in Florida and loved spending time on the water at their many homes on Lake Wisconsin. One of Red's greatest joys in life was driving a new car. Red’s love as a father was unconditional and unending. Red is further survived by his children of his first marriage, Wayne (Carolyn) Zweifel, Jan (Larry) Bushinger, and Jim (Judy) Zweifel and their families. Red was preceded in death by his wife Ruby, his parents, three brothers and an “infant” sister.
