Obituary

CROSS PLAINS-Dear family and friends, God decided that on Saturday, July 6, 2013 my work on earth was completed. With the many blessings I have received in my lifetime, I close my earthly journey with no regrets. On June 13th of this year I have completed 62 years as a Religious Franciscan Sister. During those years I have served the Church teaching in elementary schools for 32 years in Illinois and Wisconsin, and 23 years as a Pastoral Minister at St. Francis Xavier in Cross Plains. On December 2, 1933, I was born to John and Rose (Wagner) Acker. They were the greatest Christian parents anyone could ask for. Their profound faith, love of Church and family, with a generous supply of humor, gave us a happy family life. I leave behind my sisters, Margaret Lamberty, Milly Kelter, Sister Haroldine and Elmerine Acker and two brothers, Harry and Leonard. Also, my in-laws; Dolores, Susan, Diane, Elaine and Nancy Acker and many, much loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. I am also grateful to the dear School Sisters of St. Francis with whom I shared Community. On leaving, I hope to join my parents and brothers: Leander, Edward, Elmer and John; brothers-in-law, Donald (Tubby) Kelter and LaVerne Lamberty and the many other relatives and friends who preceded me into the Eternal Kingdom. My greatest accomplishment was my perseverance as a faithful daughter of the Church. My greatest treasures were the many friends in many parishes who were so loyal for so many years. Dee and Thien I am grateful for taking me on trips. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to the parishioners of St. Francis who truly loved and adopted me as part of their families. Each one of you will be forever in my heart. If you wish to honor me with funeral remembrances, I ask no flowers to be given, but contributions for Masses, some to the Retirement Fund for the School Sisters of St. Francis, and some to the Stain Glass Window Fund hoping that it will remind you of our final home in Heaven where I hope to be. The Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM in ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St. Cross Plains. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 11:00 AM with visitation before from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM with my Pastor and friend, Reverend Thomas Kelley presiding. (Do come! I want at least the first two pews filled up, not including the pallbearers!!) Burial will be in the church cemetery. I extend gratitude to Father Tom, to those who prepare and are a part of the service, those who attend my funeral, those who prepare the meal and the Gunderson Funeral Home for providing such great service. Forever grateful and meet you in our Heavenly Home, Sister John Rose Acker, O.S. F. Heard so many wonderful stories about the life that Sister John Rose lead and how many lives in the Cross Plains and surrounding communities she touch. She is leaving behind some very big shoes to be filled by another faithful servant of Christ. If only everyone could leave this world behind as you have done, your one classy lady. Heaven has gained a wonderful servant.

Sister John Rose was a very special person all throughout her life. I first met Frances Acker when we were both very young&innocent 14-year-olds entering St. Joseph (Convent) HS in Milwaukee, WI on Layton Blvd. Later we had the pleasure of teaching together in Summit, Illinois. Later still, I visited with her in Cross Plains, WI several times as I traveled from my home in Sugar Land, TX to my dad&sisters in Medford, WI. May her sweet soul rest in peace! Arlene Brehm Rivenes

I will always cherish her memory. Especially the summer she stayed at our house (when I was a lot younger) while she was teaching Summer School at Immaculate Heart in Monona. She always cared about everyone else. And all the prayers she would say for everyone. She was one in a million and I am so sure she is sitting at the right hand of God in his beautiful Heaven. God Bless all the family at this sorrowful time. Cyndee

I only met personally with Sister once, but all sick people, and old people of my Parish, speak me about her. I heard enough about her as to have her in my prayers. In the name of the people of Saint Barnabas Church, thank Sister. God give her the reward you promise for good and faithful servant

I am so glad to have known you all these years. You were more than my 1st grade teacher at Holy Ghost (now St. Raphael) in Milwaukee. You became part of our family. I will cherish those letters received each year at Christmas time and your final letter this spring. Someday I know I will see you again. Please save me a seat at the head of the class. Until we meet again.
