Obituary

STOUGHTON- Solveig (Sol) Entwistle, age 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 8, 2013 in her home at Harmony Assisted Living, Stoughton. She was born on October 10, 1914 in Madison, the daughter of Olav and Mathilde Edland. Her parents were born in Norway and met in Chippewa Falls, WI. Sol graduated from Madison East High School in 1932 and began her career as a State public employee in 1934 in what is now called the Department of Health and Social Services. She began as a stenographer and ended her career as an Administrative Assistant and Office Manager for the Division of Mental Hygiene. After 44 years of service, she retired in 1972. Sol was married for the first time in 1937 and divorced in 1960.Then in 1981, she met Robert Entwistle. They were married at Bethel Lutheran Church in 1982, and they shared 22 happy years together. Stoughton became Sol’s home after her marriage. They were members of Covenant Lutheran Church and The Stoughton Country Club. Sol played a lot of golf, both at The Stoughton Country Club and at Coachman’s. Sol and Bob spent 8 winters in Florida and had a home there. Bob died in 2004. Sol’s hobbies and pleasures were counted cross stitch, golf, bridge, crossword puzzles, lots of reading and her family. She was elegant, loving, classy and beautiful. (She was a fashion model in her youthful years.) She played golf until she was 84 years old, dressed with impeccable good taste, and gave her nieces and nephews and now her grand nephews and nieces unconditional support and love. Sol is survived by her niece, Lori (Jack) Poulson of Madison, nephew Dr. Robert (Carole) Edland of LaCrosse, nephew Jon (Alice) Edland of Durham, NC, and nephew Richard Decker (Kathryn) of Walnut Creek, CA. She is also survived by 12 grand-nephews and nieces and by at least 20 great-grand nephews and nieces. Sol is also survived by her stepchildren Richard (Barbara) Entwistle and Suzanne Walls of Stoughton, and step daughter-in-law Susan Entwistle of McFarland. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Entwistle, her sister Thelma Riley of San Ramon, CA, her brother Alfred Edland of Madison, her nieces Mary Ellen Hunt of Sacramento, CA, and Bonnie Decker of San Ramon, CA, her nephew Donald Riley and his wife Barbara of San Raphael, CA., her step-son, Gary Entwistle of McFarland and her step-son-in-law Terry Wall of Stoughton. Funeral services will be held at Covenant Lutheran Church, 1525 N. Van Buren St., Stoughton, on Friday, June 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Mark Peterson presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona will follow after luncheon at the church.
