Obituary
MADISON-Arnold “Arne” Sundt, age 92, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013, at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on Dec. 6, 1920, in the Town of Rutland, Stoughton, WI, the son of Anton and Gertrude (Nelson) Sundt. Arne graduated from Stoughton High School in 1941. In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at Great Lakes. After training he went to boiler school in Philadelphia. From there he went to Quincy, Mass., where they commissioned the USS Hancock Aircraft Carrier. After four years on the Hancock Arne was discharged and received three stars from strikes in action in the Asiatic Pacific. After service he worked for Wisconsin Power & Light in Beloit, and later for Madison Metropolitan Schools, retiring after 30 years. Arne liked repairing clocks, auctions, playing euchre and traveling. He was the last member of the Sundt family to pass on. Arne is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris; son, Duane (Alice) Sundt; granddaughters, Kendra (Russ) Stock and Heather (Aaron) Poster; great-granddaughter, Hailee Poster; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Beatrice, Evelyn, Alma and Ruth; and brothers, Penroy “Mike”, and Victor. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, with the Rev. John Swanson presiding. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home, from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. I will miss Arne and am glad I got to see him when I was there 3 weeks ago. He was a wonderful godfather and his quiet, gentle soul will be missed. Praying for you Doris, Duane, and all who loved him during this time of loss.

I was a Building Custodian for the Madison School Dist. And also worked in the Maintenance Shop. Arne was a very dear man, and after our retirement I would run into him in stores etc.We always had a nice chat. My sincere condolencesto the family.
