Barbara Carlsen

MADISON- Barbara Marcella (“Marcy') Carlsen passed away peacefully on Friday, July 5, 2013, at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. She was born near Dodge, Nebraska on January 9, 1914, to Sebastian and Barbara (Johanes) Sladovnik. Marcy graduated from Dodge High in 1931 and moved to Omaha to attend Van Sant Business College. In Omaha she met her future husband, Carsten (“Scan”), whom she married on March 15, 1947 in Hiawatha, Kansas. Marcy worked as a secretary and at the bomber plant during WWII, but primarily (and most proudly) was a homemaker. She and Scan had one child, Barry Roal Carlsen. Marcy was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers (Emil, Ed and John Sladovnik), and sisters (Anna Kulhanek, Frances Dostal, Stazy Smeall, Bessie Suchan, Adella Orrick, and Bea Lodes). She is survived by her son, Barry and his wife, Marja Barger, and her grandchildren, Carsten and Frieda. A small memorial will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Omaha, at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 22.
