Obituary
Carney, Jeremy J. July 23, 1974-June 27, 2013 After a long and courageous battle with ocular melanoma, Jeremy Carney left this world peacefully on Thursday, June 27, 2013, surrounded by his loving wife, Becky, his family and his closest friends. Though he left us far too soon, Jeremy truly lived life to the fullest, packing in three lifetimes worth of adventures and memories. He was a world traveler, with a special love for the beach and being near the ocean. He liked to say he spent his 20s in retirement, traveling between Big Sky, Montana, and Eleuthera, an island in the Bahamas. In 2009, he married the love of his life, Becky, on the beaches of Costa Rica. Wherever he traveled, his warm spirit and enthusiasm gathered friends from all walks of life. An avid outdoorsman, he was always most comfortable outside with a fishing pole in his hand or a snowboard under his feet. He loved to be active and adventurous, skateboarding, kayaking, and Frisbee golfing with friends. He had the impressive ability to build or fix almost anything, and was always quick to help his family and friends with home projects and car repairs. He loved cars, a passion instilled in him by his father. Jeremy’s calm and optimistic nature and his strong sense of humor never wavered during the most difficult of times. He lived in the here-and-now, not allowing his illness to define whom he was or what he wanted to accomplish. He and Becky have a beautiful daughter, Piper, who he adored. Every time he saw her, he lit up. Her blue eyes and warm laughter are Jeremy’s legacy. He will be deeply missed by the many people who had the honor to know him. Jeremy is survived by his wife, Becky; daughter, Piper Rose; sister, Jennifer (Lynton) Hansen; niece, Callysta; nephew, Ethan; maternal grandmother, Rosella Zemke; special friends, Angela and Andrew Bootz; and other relatives and many friends. A Celebration of his Life will be held at OLIN-TURVILLE PARK PAVILLION, 1156 Olin-Turville Ct., Madison, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2013. A time of sharing will be held at noon. A special thank you and appreciation is extended to the talented and compassionate medical teams at UW Carbone Cancer Center, Agrace HospiceCare, and Jefferson Kimmel Cancer Center, along with Cy and Lois Swartz, Jeremy and Becky’s host family in Philadelphia. Jeremy requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations in consideration of Piper be made to the Carney Family Fund. Checks can be made to the Carney Family Fund and mailed to Summit Credit Union at the following address. I remember Jeremy in high school as a smart, nice guy with lots of energy. He clearly lived for today. Thoughts are with his family.
