Obituary
MADISON- Mabel H. Jensen, age 96, of Madison, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 31, 2013. She was born on Jan. 1, 1917 in Irene, S.D., the daughter of Edward C. and Dina T. (Docken) Olson. On Nov. 25, 1938, Mabel was united in marriage to Alfred E. Jensen in Beresford, S.D., where they farmed until 1966 when they moved to Madison. Together they shared a love like none other. They enjoyed traveling, even taking many trips to Denmark. Mabel will be remembered as a devoted mother who enjoyed baking, quilting and crocheting. However her greatest joy came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was Mabel’s strong faith that helped her to convey such warmth, care and love for her family over the years. Together with Al, they were long time members of the Evangelical Free Church of America. Mabel is survived by her three daughters, JoAnn (Peter) Thorpe, Jeanette (Mark) Foss and Joyce (George) Lynn; grandchildren, Kevin (Loretta) Foss, Dawn (James) Sprecher, Brent Foss, Sara (Pat) McCormick, Tim Foss, Anita Thorpe and Kirstin (Doug) Salter; 11 great-grandchildren; and four nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Al in 1999; and two brothers. Funeral services will take place at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, with the Rev. Cal Steiner and Rev. Paul Bawden presiding. A private family burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mabel’s memory to Door Creek Church or Grace Evangelical Church. A special thank you to the Maplewood Nursing Home for all their loving care to Mabel and her family. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my precious friend and cherished Sister in Christ. I have nothing but the warmest memories of many fine meals together, fireside chats and gracious attention from Mabel. She will be sorely missed, and already has been. Thank you for sharing her with our grateful congregation those many years. You have my sincere condolences.

Joanne Thorpe, May the Great Comforter walk with you as you miss your mom. I'd didn't know of your mom's South Dakota roots. And hear Myron and I are living very close to Irene and Beresford
SD. She was a wonderful friend, caring person, woman of God. I know you and your family will miss her.
