Obituary

MONONA-William Groves, age 75, of Monona passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013, at his home. He was born on April 11, 1938, the son of Robert and Emma (Yanke) Groves. William married Marlene Marty on Feb. 12, 1959. After he attended Central High School in 1956, William joined the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War until 1958. In 1974, Bill took a big risk and started his own business, “Wisconsin Copy and Business Equipment”, which was a huge success. He was the President and CEO for 28 years. He then opened Tully’s II Food and Spirits with his friend, Russ. Bill was a member of Monona Grove Business Association, past President of Monona Lions Club, and a 33rd Degree Mason. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed watching the stock market and watching boxing. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and friends. Bill is survived by his wife, Marlene; children, Michael (Terri) Groves and Cheri Groves; grandchildren, Wendy and Joshua Groves and Shannon and Jason “Jay” Beale; and sister, Alta Groves Jewell. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Steven; and brother, Terry. A Celebration of Life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., with a short service beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013, with the Rev. Alta Jewell presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lion’s Club, P.O. Box 131, Cottage Grove, WI 53527 or Shriner’s Childrens Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Fl. 33607. Celebration of Life will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., with a short service beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013, with the Rev. Alta Jewell presiding.

Alta, my sister in the cloth, and family: Old friend, Bill, from our wandering years in search of a life, lots of fun and fond memories remain from the 50's. One of the guys with a comely sister. He exceeded many expectations, I believe. God be with you all, and bless his memory.

Dear Alta - so sorry to learn about Billy. I didn't see the obit - Dale Sorenson emailed me. Dale was good friends with Billy and Russ & used to frequent Tully's when he was in town. My thoughts are with you. Patti Brickson
