Obituary

FITCHBURG – Donald W. Schultz, age 87, of Fitchburg, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the William S. Middleton VA Hospital in Madison. He was born on Oct. 17, 1925, in Madison, the son of Calla (Drumen) and his step-father, Orin Pierce. Don married Eleanor E. Lawry on Dec. 28, 1945, in Oregon. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving during World War II in South East Asia receiving numerous commendations including the Purple Heart. After his service, Don came home and was co-owner of Schultz Electric. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, American Legion, VFW, Oregon Snow Blazers and Wisconsin Electrical Union Local No. 159. “Muskie Don” enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, snowmobiling and traveling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and his wonderful grandchildren. “Muskie” and “Tuffy” spent many a holiday or a trip with their special friends, the Nygaards. Don especially enjoyed spending time with his family and his wonderful grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Eleanor “Tuffy”; his children, Jerry (Joan) Schultz of Cross Plains, Gloria (Tom) Swayzee of Middleton, and Karen (Dave) McGaw of Oregon; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Don Strassman; along with numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and daughter, Diane Strassman on Feb. 23, 2013. Funeral services will be held at ST. JOHN’S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 625 East Netherwood Street, Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013, with military honors being conducted. A luncheon will follow. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park St., Oregon, from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2013, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. A special thank you to the VA Hospice team for their wonderful care and compassion. We love you and will miss you, but you will forever be in our hearts. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON OREGON FUNERAL HOME, 1150 Park St., Oregon, from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, 2013, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.
