Obituary
Lodi/DeForest - Carl J. Haakenson, age 81, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the Lodi Good Samaritan Center. Carl was born on May 10, 1931, in Madison, the son of Carl and Sena (Anderson) Haakenson. In 1949 Carl joined the 176th Fighter Squadron of the Air National Guard in Madison. He served on active duty with the U.S. Air Force 19th Bomb Wing in Guam during the Korean War. Carl married Marjorie Cruzan in 1951. Two daughters, Roxanne and Patricia were born of this marriage. Marjorie preceded him in death as a result of an automobile accident. He married Janice Benz on April 22, 1960. A son, Bradly, was born of this marriage. Carl was employed by Marling Lumber Company for 38 years, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing. They moved to a home on the Wisconsin River in 1979, and enjoyed many years of boating on the river and Lake Wisconsin. In 2004, they moved to the Jefferson Square Condo’s and enjoyed their time there. He was a former member of the VFW Post No.1318 in Madison, a former officer of the Portage Elks Lodge No.675 and presently a member of the American Legion Post No.348 in Deforest. Carl enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. In addition to his wife Janice; survivors include his children, Roxanne (William) Edick, Patricia (Scott) Schaefer and Bradly (Janet) Haakenson; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Doris Miller, Bernice Holzhueter, Shirley Groth and Myrtle Weichmann; a brother, Raymond; eight half-brothers and two half-sisters. Funeral services will be held at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 220 S. Main St., DeForest, at 11a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, with the Rev. Jerry Olson presiding. Private family burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Lodi Good Samaritan Center or to the Christ Lutheran Church of DeForest. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Dean Clinic Cardiac Failure in Madison and Dr. Dale Fanney and staff at Lodi Good Samaritan for their wonderful care. Goodbye to my favorite uncle. Because of you Uncle Carl I had my first and only motorcycle ride, I also remember you showing your first "bomb" of a car to your friends and later at home trying to figure out what that horrible smell was and finding out they had put Limburger cheese on the manifold. RIP Carl. Love Judy
