Obituary
MADISON-George Henry Kauffeld (“Tiger” to some of his high school friends and “Cigar Box George” amongst his knife-collecting colleagues) died peacefully at Agrace Hospice surrounded by family on Friday, April 5, 2013, after a period of declining health. He was born on Oct. 12, 1942 in Colfax, Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Mary (Alten) Kauffeld. George graduated from West High School in 1961, served with the 32nd “Red Arrow” Division of the U.S. Army for two years, received a degree in anthropology from the UW-Madison, and was a man of eclectic interests. He was an avid collector, wheeler-dealer, and bargain-finder extraordinaire. He loved the outdoors and, in addition to hunting and fishing, enjoyed looking for arrowheads, mushrooms and ginseng. He shot black powder guns, made wine, read extensively, and loved to road-trip. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sharon; sons, Christopher (Cynthia), Jason (Giselle), Jeff, and Trevor (Beth); and six grandchildren, Madeleine (10), Owen (8), Evan (7), Abigail (4), Ashna (3), and Isabel (3) - in whom he took great pride and joy. Not to be forgotten is Murphy, a miniature schnauzer who was his faithful companion. A private ceremony was held for family at Abiding Shepherd. A memorial gathering in celebration of George’s life for friends and extended family will be announced later in the year. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in George’s name to a favorite charity of your own choosing.

Jason, We are sorry to hear of your father's passing. No matter how old we are, losing a parent makes you feel a little bit orphaned. Enjoy all your wonderful memories with the rest of your family. Eventually they will make you laugh again through the tears.
