Obituary

MADISON-Gladys Akiko McConnell, age 84, of Madison, passed away on Friday, Apr. 12, 2013, at her home. She was born on Sept. 7, 1928, in Tokyo, Japan, the daughter of Yoshiharu and Naka Nakamoto. Gladys married Roy Walter McConnell on Dec. 14, 1953, in Yokohama, Japan. She was employed as a drapery seamstress at Sears. Gladys was a member of the East Side Business Club, the Eagles, and Lake Edge Lutheran Church. She loved bowling and was a member of the USBC, WWBA, and WIBC. Gladys is survived by her daughters, Marie (Jeff) Haug, Amy Becker, and Naomie (Dale) Manning; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Roy, on October 12, 2002. Funeral services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 1 p.m., on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. I loved Gladys, who was a magnificent wonderful friend. She will be greatly missed. Although, the 3 daughters and their families please accept my greatest sympathy in the loss of your mother and grandma. Kathleen Borch Arbors

Mike & I are so sorry for the loss of your mother. We just arrived back from Arizona where we have been for five months. Your mom was such a nice lady. We always enjoyed visiting with your mom (and dad) at the McConnells in Windsor.
