I will miss Don greatly, as a long time mentor and a friend. As my department head when I was a fledgling structural engineer, he set for me a great example on how to encourage, mentor, teach, and deal with problems, situations and people. After his retirement (from the office anyway) and even up to the past few years he would stop in the office every several months to share about a project he was involved in, to tell a humorous story, and almost always would present a 'tough' engineering question solely to prove (to me) that I 'couldn't be stumped'. I will always appreciate the confidence he placed in me and the affirmation that gave me. His mentorship and encouragement never stopped and will live on.

A few years ago I interviewed Don for the ACEC Wisconsin anniversary magazine. It was one of the most amazing interviews I have ever conducted. He was funny and a bit gregarious... but mostly I walked away thinking his contribution to engineering in Wisconsin was just incredible.
