Dear Sanftleben Family, especially Pam... I am so sorry to read of your mother's passing! And so surprised. I popped in on her a couple of weeks ago, gave her one of the proof copies of my book, and was going to go see her this Tuesday to see what my wise kindergarten teacher thought of it. (Also, planned to give her a surprise signed copy as a gift, trade it for the proof.) I had told her she was in it; I hope she made it to that part just to see the impact she had on my life - back in the 60s and last summer, when we met again. Your mom was an absolute treasure. Is, I should say. She is a treasure. I am so sorry for your loss! Katherine (was WIlken; sisters Karen and Becky)

Dear Family, Margaret was such a dear friend to me when I started working at Springfield Elementary School many years ago. She took me under her wing and taught me the joys of teaching in a small rural school. Many blessings to you and my prayers and thoughts are with all of you during this time. Fondly, Kathy Jordan Kathy Hill when I worked with Margaret

Ms. Sanftleben was our daughter's kindergarten teacher at Elm Lawn School. What we remember most about that year was the class play, "The Shoemaker and the Elves", which Ms. Sanftleben organized. Our daughter, normally shy, was one of the elves, complete with a hat and green paper ears, and was having the time of her life up on the stage, even improvising to impress her little brother. When we expressed surprise afterwards that she wasn't shy at all on the stage, her teacher just smiled knowingly and said, "Oh, they can go either way. She was showing off for her little brother." She knew kids. That's our memory of Margaret Sanftleben.
