Obituary
MONONA-Marion Ellen Schumacher, age 92, loving wife of former Monona Mayor, Marvin Schumacher, devoted and loving mother of six, grandmother of 15, and great-grandmother of 15, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Serenity Homes in Stoughton. She was born on Nov. 9, 1920, in Madison, the daughter of Clarence and Clara (Reeve) Hughes. She was united in marriage to Marvin Michael Schumacher, the son of Hugo and Anna (Mergen) Schumacher, on Aug. 13, 1943, at City Hall, in Los Angeles, Calif. where Marvin was stationed during World War II. Marion was a devoted family historian and conducted many years of genealogical research. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution through her ancestor, Nathaniel Wood. She could also trace her ancestry to a Mayflower descendent, Stephen Hopkins, and a victim of the Salem Witch Trials, Margaret Scott. She was especially proud of her famous ancestors, Billie and Piera Sidell who performed their dancing shows all over the world during the 1920's and 1930's. Marion is survived by her children, Jon (Sally) Schumacher of Loyalton, Calif., Jim (Linda) Schumacher of Clinton, Ann Miller (Ethan, deceased) of Pagosa Springs, Colo., Paul (Sally) Schumacher of Winnemucca, Nev., Laurie (David) Benson of Janesville, and Alice Derra (Sherry Chism, deceased) of Madison; sister, Hazel Breitenbach of Columbia, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin, in 1999; and three brothers, Robert, Gerald, and Donald Hughes. Memorial services will be held at MONONA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 606 Nichols Road, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013, with the Rev. David Byers-Dent presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. A full obituary will appear on Sunday, March 31, 2013.Memorials may be made to the East Madison Monona Coalition of the Aging.
Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2013, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.
Memorial services will be held at MONONA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 606 Nichols Road, Monona, at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013, with the Rev. David Byers-Dent presiding.
