Mr. Kenneth A. Geier
May 09, 1933 - January 11, 2013
Obituary
MADISON- Kenneth Arthur Geier, age 79, passed away on January 11, 2013, at his home. Ken was born on May 9, 1933, the son of Julius and Helen (Dettman) Geier, and graduated from West High School in Madison. On April 16, 1955, he married Irene Julson of Oxford. Married 56 years, they called Madison home, raising four children and delighting in their grandchildren. Ken was self-employed as a painter and wallpaper installer and was known for the quality of his work. He bowled in the Classic and Major Leagues at Schwoegler’s where he was known as “Buck,” enjoyed deer hunting with his buddies and made a daily habit of matching wits with the crossword puzzle. He and Irene enjoyed square dancing and Ken took immense pleasure in old-time country and western “cowboy” music. In the 1980s, he lent much talent, time and energy to the restoration of his friend Tom Church’s antique schooner the “Nor’wester” and together with their wives they enjoyed sailing on Lake Michigan. He is survived by a daughter, Cheryl (Mike) Majerus of Fitchburg; sons, Tom (Sandy) Geier of Madison, Steve (Connie) Geier of Belleville and David (Sheila) Geier of Middleton; four grandchildren, Mandy and Kyle Majerus, Sam Geier and Jeremy Goecks-Majerus. He will be missed by his surviving brother, Julius, Jr. (Janice) Geier, as well as many relatives, neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2011; and brothers, Richard (Bud) and Theodore (Ted). The family is planning a memorial gathering to be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Agrace HospiceCare.

I will remember his droll sense of humor (but always with that simmering grin just under the surface), the quiet demeanor and the songs. Also, the mural (unfinished for him but incredible to me) on the basement wall and the first color TV in my neighborhood. Geier's house had the coolest wallpaper I'd ever seen in an otherwise humble home.
Mr. and Mrs. Geier made me as welcome as their own kids whenever I stayed there (I practically lived there at times!). I remember Mr. Geier playing the guitar sitting cross-legged on the couch, singing "Cool Water". After that, I always wanted to hear him sing again but he'd never do so on demand. I guess I was lucky that one time!
Childhood was a long, long time ago but my "extra" parents have a special place in my heart. Give each other a hug for me, Mr. and Mrs. G.
Much love to all of you in the family. May your moments of remembrance bring you comfort, happiness and inspiration.

My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you. I knew Kenny from the Wallpaper Shoppe. I enjoyed visiting with him as he had his cup of coffee. It was wonderful to recommend him for jobs and knew they would be done to perfection. Bless him for now he is not suffering anymore and he is with his beloved Irene. Joleen
