Obituary
MONONA-Frederick Volker, Jr., age 82, of Monona, passed away on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Oak Park Place. He was born on Jan. 29, 1930, in Madison, the son of Frederick and Hazel (Harroun) Volker, Sr. Frederick graduated from East High School in 1947, and went to work for Madison Gas and Electric as a laborer. He retired from MG&E as Supervisor of Gas Distribution in 1989. He married Henrietta Hinze on Nov. 4, 1950, in Madison. Frederick was a member of the Cottage Grove Historical Society where he served as president and a former member of the Madison Technology Club. He enjoyed genealogy, woodcarving, arrowhead hunting, gardening, traveling, working with stained glass, playing softball, and watching the Packers and the Cubs. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and his wonderful grandchildren. Frederick is survived by his wife of 62 years, Henrietta; children, Michael Volker of Madison, Susan Volker of Fitchburg, Kimberly (Habib) Dagher of Veazie, Maine, and Sean (Amylynne) Volker of Monona; nine grandchildren, Danielle, Christiana, Katerina, Anna Maria, Joseph, Mariah, Kristen, Leilani, and Nicholas; two great-grandchildren, Veda and Jasper; one sister, Avis (Jerome) Miller; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bruce; and sisters, Muriel Mowrey and Jeanette Angell. Funeral services for Frederick will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, with Chaplain Timothy Jones of AgraceHospiceCare presiding. Burial will be at Cottage Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, as well as from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the Parkinson’s Association. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the 2nd floor staff at Oak Park Place and to Agrace HospiceCare. I worked at M.G.&E. in the 70'es in Maps and Records and Fred always seem to be a easy going guy and always had kind words for the workers.
