Obituary
MADISON/STOUGHTON- Laurence Hammond, age 69 of Madison passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 22, 2012. He was born on April 16, 1943 in Canton, IL, the son of Edwin and Audrey (Lutz) Hammond. As a child he lived in Illinois, Minnesota, Texas, California, Indiana, Nebraska, and Beloit, WI before moving to Madison in 1959. Laurence graduated from Monona Grove High school in 1962, and then began working full time as a firefighter at the Blooming Grove Fire Department until 1972. Between 1970 and 1987, he was a volunteer for the fire department, retiring as Captain. He also was a custodian for the Madison School District from 1972 until 2002. Laurence enjoyed fishing and watching high school basketball in his spare time, especially watching the Monona Grove High School basketball team. He was a supporter of the team for over 30 years. He also enjoyed spending most of his time with his family, children, and grandchildren. Laurence is survived by his two sons; Rick (Jackie) of McFarland and Kevin (Tracy) of Stoughton; two grandchildren, Andrew and Alaina of McFarland; brother, Phil of Madison; special friend, Beverly Skinner of Stoughton; ex-wife, Illa Hammond of Monona; and his “grand dog”, Harlie. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME 5203 Monona Drive, Madison on Friday December 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Monsignor Gerard Healy officiating. Visitation will be held at the Funeral Home on Thursday, December 27, 2012 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and also from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. Burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens.
