Obituary
MT.HOREB/MIDDLETON-Milton A. Lukken age 91, passed away on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Girlies Manor in Mt. Horeb. He was born on a farm in Mt. Horeb to Albert and Grace Mabel (Offerdahl) Lukken on October 28, 1921. He attended a one room country school house and graduated from Mt. Horeb High School in 1935. Milton was united in marriage to Alice Garfoot on May 15, 1943 in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Cross Plains. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on July 20, 1942. Milton was a decorated combat infantry veteran, serving in the Third U.S. Army during the liberation of Europe, participating in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. During this time he made assaults across four major rivers in Europe, three of them 1st wave and the fourth, the Rhine. He was in a 40 man patrol that crossed the night before under the cover of darkness. During the central Europe campaign his unit captured the first concentration camp discovered in Germany at Ordruff. He was Past Commander of the Cross Plains American Legion Post 245 and a life time member of the prestige’s Combat Infantrymen’s Association of North Carolina. Milton is survived by five children, Eileen Vassau, Verona; Dr. Kathleen Lukken, Ogden, Utah; Joyce Lukken, Mt. Horeb; Gary Lukken, Middleton and Terry Lukken , Monument, Colorado; a sister, Joyce Kiekhaefer, Middleton; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Alice in 2000. It was Milton’s wishes that no services be held. He was interred in St. Francis Cemetery, Cross Plains. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Lance and all his staff at Girlies Manor in Mt. Horeb and Agrace HospiceCare, Inc. for all their care, compassion and patience.

"Uncle Miltie" and I worked together for a number of years at Northern Scientific in Middleton. His work ethic, humor, and dignity were always excellent; and I missed him when he decided to move on. My deepest condolences to Gary and the rest of Mr. Lukken's descendants.
